Roasted by Odd Kin in Bristol

Produced by RAEK Cooperative

Tasting Notes:

Black Cherry, cacoa nib, lapsang tea

Process: Washed

Altitude: 1400 - 1800 MASL

Varietal:  JBM (Typica) and Bourbon (Jackson)

Brew: Espresso & Filter

Until quite recently, Congo was not especially known for its speciality coffee; our import partners at This Side Up first discovered the RAEK cooperative and its sophisticated farming and processing set up back in 2017. At that time their only customer was Oxfam! Despite all sorts of institutional and financial challenges these guys are still managing to produce some fantastic coffee.

That being said, here at Odd Kin we’ve never had anything like it! It took us a fair bit of time to get our heads around the flavour profile, but we’re super happy with the resulting coffee, tasting like a sophisticated old gentlemen’s game room with notes of liquorice, smokey lapsang tea, rich cacao nibs and sweet black cherry.

We were amazed to find that roasting for espresso had such a huge impact on the flavour notes versus a filter roast and couldn't miss the opportunity to serve up one of the most interesting coffees we’ve ever roasted, it tastes great on filter, like a strong & sweet black tea.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we are!
