Mutovu takes its name from the river flowing at the base of the site, which, along with rainwater from the nearby mountain, provides the washing station's water supply. Rainwater is collected in tanks and distributed across the small 2-hectare station. Originally built in 2012, the station was acquired by the Rwanda Trading Company (RTC) in 2018. RTC employs five full-time staff and 70 seasonal workers, with women making up 90% of the seasonal workforce.
RTC is committed to building strong, long-term partnerships with local farming communities through its Coffee Agribusiness Training Program, led by experienced field officers. The program focuses on improving coffee yield and quality, while also increasing farmers' incomes by linking them to sustainable supply chains.
A total of 995 farmers contribute to Mutovu’s production, all of whom participate in the RTC program. Their farms, situated between 0.5 and 5 kilometers from the station, each cultivate around 3,500 Arabica coffee trees.
